Welcome. I was fortunate to grow up knowing the names etc for all of my great grandparents. Cousins- and I have hundreds of them- started asking for help in tracing their branches.

Well 10 years later I have 20 - 30 requests for help daily. Mainly its requests to link up with another researcher I’ve mentioned in a thread.

I cant visit that many sites daily so my husband suggested I set up this blog to consolidate my research.

I’m new to this so please be patient.

I have searced thousands of databases and will try to steer you to the best and away from the useless and rip off sites.

I will be posting my personal research and anyone may use it to further their own searches. However, I intend to publish in the future and my material is copyrighted and should not be used without permission.

I am of Irish ( Galway and Mayo) and Swedish ( Hallands province) descent. Theses areas encompass the bulk of my material however thanks to marriages I’ve visited German, Polish, British, Australian, Scots, Italian, the other Scandanavian countries etc.

I have found that you find clues in the least likely place so feel free to jump in with those brick wall questions we all have. That’s really the point of this blog. To find that back door to your info.

When posting include all the info you have immediately. We want to keep things moving. Feel free to hook up with individuals via email for joint research but come back and let us know how it works out.

This is a genealogy blog not a discussion forumn. All users must remain polite, refrain from profanity, and avoid conflict. This site is for an exchange of information only.

Well that’s my opening statement. Please .feel free to start posting immediately.

The surnames I have researched include Forsman, Screen, Kelly, Murray, Hughes, Hansberry, Lynch, Guth, Mannion, Olson, Magnusson, Persdsotter, Erdstrom, Cosgrove, Feeney , Dolan, Gormally, Ruane, Philbin , Pelaskie and many more.

Welcome again and let the hunt begin. from, tere

Irish and Swedish Geneology Connections

June 8th, 2005

Sorry it took so long to get this going. Life is busy. I’m a full time nurse and Mom. My son  will be 8 soon and daughter will be 5 soon. I’ve been researching lots of family connections and want to pull them altogether. I am fascinated by the immigrant experiences so I’m a natural at the information gathering. Just to warn you all, some of the stuff I’ve discovered is a little scandoulous- also I cant spell. To the Irish respondees we are in search of Hansberry, Cosgrove, Mannions and several more elusive threads- primarily around 1800-1900. To the Forsmans, Carl Olsson, born about 1878- how was he related to Anna Olsson- wife of Gus, my great grandfather. I will be posting what I know and speculate shortly. Please chime in if you have any information. thanks for now, tere

Swedish connections

June 22nd, 2005

Here is an email I recieved that I’d like to share with a reply.

“Dear Therese

What an offer. We are excited. We have had reparations in our apartment. Hans has the same situation but he does the job himself. We are closing in for Midsummer Eve, today it`s heavy raining and thunder but it will pass in the evening. Now it`s 2200 o clock in the evening and the forecast was right, the sun suddenly came to light, it`s a lovely sunset.

We return. Hans and Stig”

Dear Hans and Stig- I haven’t had much time to to write on the blog yet due to family illnesses but is imroving. I am registered at all kinds of search engines and have gathered a lot of material that needs to be correlated. First excuse me but I am still somewhat confused as to how we are related.

My great grandparents were Gus (aka August, Gustav, Gustaf, Gustavious Adolphus/ Adolf) Forsman. His sister was Maria Carlotta- Marions grandmother. He married Anna Olsson aka Anna Johnson. I have conflicting info on Anna and would like to trace her relationship to a Carl Oscar Olsson who I found residing with Gus and Anna in Sea Bright , New Jersey, USA. In the 1900 census he was listed as 20 years old.

My grandfather Axel would have been 9 years old already but I never heard mention of Carl. I know my great grandparents had a daughter Josephina born March 1884, died May 1887- this took place in Sweden. The next child was born in 1889 ( Gerda) in USA. My father always said his grandmother ” lost a 7 year old in Sweden” and then agreed to come to USA- which she always hated. I had assumed it was the daughter, however the dates do not match for Josephina.

Marion discoverd some photo copies of Gus’ bible , partly written in Swedish. If you have a fax number I could send them to you to translate. If not please send a mailing address and I will mail. My grandfather did not die until I was 13 and I spent long periods of time living with him so I would remember if he ever mentioned a Carl Olsson. Curiously Gus’ son John Oscar named one of his sons Carl .

My great grandmother Anna Olson originally registered her children in school under the surname Johnson and the name Johnson appears twice in the bible pages crossed out with Forsman written over it.

I can not find a marriage record for Gus and Anna in either country. Therfore I speculate that Anna may have been married before to a Mr Johnson. She was born in 1850 so there was time. If not was Carl a nephew? I have Anna’s parents and sibling names and have found a little info on one sister but nothing on Anna .

If you can help with any of these questions I can supply dates for Anna’s parents and siblings.

Sorry for this lengthy letter . Please respond at your leisure, I can only sit and type when my 5 year old is not around to help.

If you can email photographs please do. I like to be able to see who I’m writing to. By the way I am 45 years old, married with a 7 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. I am a registered nurse. My Mom is still alive at 83 but my father passed in 1997. I have six siblings.

Thanks again and I really appreciate the response. your cousin Tere

PS I remember a cousin Thora- or Tora visiting about 1970? Is he a relative of yours too? I may have gotten some of this information already but I had a computer problem last winter which wiped out some data.

PPS Please forgive me if I misprounce or spell. Many Swedish names were anglicized when they emigrated. Thanks again

Make Sure Your Legacy in the Family Tree is Protected

March 20th, 2006

What will people think of you when you are gone? Will they remember you, or will they remember the fight your family had over your assets? Will some attorney acting “in your best interest” actually drain your trust or estate keeping your beneficiaries fighting?Worse, what if you are living and a beneficiary or their attorney takes away your personal rights? What if that attorney gives your beneficiaries bad advice and they sell an asset causing your trust or estate to pay undue taxes that could have been avoided? What if they cut off your insurance, take your social security checks, and empty your bank accounts? What if they give hospitals bad medical information on your behalf and cut you off from your loved ones?

Be careful, because your trust or estate’s attorney gets paid either way. They have everything to gain by providing services to your trust or estate manager. There are also attorneys who have been caught doing things they shouldn’t and such that you may want to avoid.

What can you do?

Best thing to do is take care of it now! Get a reputable attorney with experience. Don’t use the firm owner’s flunky that is trying to make a name for them self. Get the boss and make sure the boss has lots of experience protecting you, not your beneficiaries. Yes, you want your beneficiaries to have something nice, but don’t be in a position to let your generosity be taken advantage of!

If you protect yourself now, you can be sure that you are remembered in your family tree for who you were and not the fight your family had after your passing. Let your beneficiaries enjoy what you left behind, not some legal firm. Secure your assets and your person with a proper will by a reputable attorney now!

If you followed a link here and are looking for a reputable attorney, call your local bar association, check the BBB and check with the State Attorney’s Office about their reputation. Don’t use an internet advertisement or webpage to make this decision.

You can however use the internet to find out about people you hire to manage your affairs. After you hire someone, ask who will be working on your case. Many people keep blogs and you can google their names to see who they are in many cases.

This is a good book on the subject. Family Wealth–Keeping It in the Family

Protect Yourself From Identity Theft

March 31st, 2006

While the type of fraud we are about to discuss is almost impossible to detect, in some cases, you should know that mail theft can result in identity theft and fraud, but you are protected by law if you discover it.

Mail theft can occur in several ways, one as simple as a visitor to your house pocketing an important letter. But you can prevent that. Another form of mail theft can occur when a bold thief goes into your mailbox and takes personal letters intended for you only. Again, this can be difficult to detect and prevent, but can be prevented.

What can’t be prevented is a person or persons filling out a USPS change of address card. This can be accomplished in one of two ways. First a thief can just fill out a change of address form and drop it in the mail box. Then without you knowing, your mail will be diverted to another address where the thief can intercept it to use against you.

The second way is to pay one dollar on line at the USPS website. The second is nice because you have an accurate credit card transaction to prove the thief diverted your mail illegally. Believe it or not, there are criminals that are that stupid and leave a paper trail. Fortunately, they are caught as a result and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by the Federal Government.

Both change of address methods above trigger a verification letter to the changed address and party; however there are certain conditions where this letter won’t reach you to inform you of the illegal activity. One case in point being where you have moved and you would not receive that letter because it goes to your previous address. Plus, the new tenant will see you changed your address and think it is normal and never raise suspicion.

So what constitutes the illegal act? Let’s look at the definition of mail fraud.

MAIL FRAUD - 18 U.S.C. 1341, makes it a Federal crime or offense for anyone to use the United States mails in carrying out a scheme to defraud.

A person can be found guilty of that offense only if all of the following facts are proved: First: That the person knowingly and willfully devised a scheme to defraud, or for obtaining money or property by means of false pretenses, representations or promises; and Second: That the person used the United States Postal Service by mailing, or by causing to be mailed, some matter or thing for the purpose of executing the scheme to defraud.

So as you can see, no matter what their intention, no one can legally justify intercepting your mail. If you move, verify in the near future your change of address is valid. Don’t allow a bad circumstance to get worse because you didn’t know. You have to be active in preventing mail theft despite the laws in place to protect you.
