Wisdom and beauty in prose and photo I checked this book out of the library to use in a research paper and decided that I had to have my own copy. Eleven essays written by native peoples of the North Pacific coast relate their history and practices in beautiful prose and wisdom that one can read over and over and still get something from. Just to read the essay on whaling, for example, is to gain a deeper understanding of the sacredness and connectivity of humans and all other creatures. As each people/tribe talk about their way of life, it becomes apparent that activities that Euro-Americans find mundane, such as bathing or food gathering, holds for them a ritualized and sacred meaning. The photos of their art are exceptionally well done. I wish there was a hard copy of this gorgeous book.
